Owen is a stray Lab mix who was found wandering the streets of the Bronx in late 2012. Picked up by NYC Animal Control, he, sadly, landed on their kill list after developing an all-too-common kennel cough. Though the infection can start off benignly enough with some sneezing and coughing, it’s highly contagious and can lead to more serious conditions, like pneumonia, so, in a system as over-crowded as New York City’s, the diagnosis is usually—sadly—a one-way ticket to the kill list.
Luckily, Owen was spotted by an East Village no-kill shelter and brought under their wing. Shortly thereafter, our designers, raven + crow studio, spotted Owen on the shelter’s Facebook page and knew right away that he was the dog for them.
Now this gentle dog shares a home with his two humans and a handsome feline brother from another mother.
In honor of Owen and his success story, we’re debuting his namesake shoe—an elegant black men’s oxford that features a pop of personality worthy of Owen with it’s subtle red sole. It comes in both cruelty-free coated canvas and faux leather, for the most discerning of tastes.
Check both out. And remember—adoption is the only option! Find your Owen today!
Please join us on Tuesday, October 15th at 6pm to celebrate the release of Animal Camp: Reflections on a Decade of Love, Hope, and Veganism at Catskill Animal Sanctuary., the latest book from Kathy Stevens. Kathy Stevens is the founder and director of Catskill Animal Sanctuary As many of you already know, CAS is an incredible place that is home to hundreds of rescued animals that were living lives of miseries on farms where they were destined for the table. These lucky creatures are instead living out their lives in a place where they are appreciated as individuals instead of merely as numbers. In their 10 year history CAS has taken part in the rescue of over 2000 animals, can’t wait to see what the next 10 years bring
Kathy will be on hand to discuss her important work, answer questions, and sign copies of her book. The book will be available for purchase.
Also expect complimentary snacks from Candle 79 and Beyond Sushi If you are looking for a more filling meal, we are very excited that Yeah Dawg will also be on hand serving up their vegan “dawgs” with all their amazing and creative fixings.
Also a great day to shop, MooShoes will be donating 10% of all in store and online sales to Catskill Animal Sanctuary on the entire day of the event.
Hope to see you all there.
Although not mandatory, please RSVP on Facebook just to give us an approximate head count.
We are desperately trying to place these two amazing guys (Marshmallow and Sparta)
Marshmallow is an 18 pound 5 year old Main Coon mix. He is super sweet most of the time but for those familiar with Main Coons, you know they tend to come with a bit of attitude..all the good looking ones do, right?
Sparta is a 3.5 year old sweetheart. She is currently about 15 pounds but she is working on taking a bit of that off. She is the kind of girl that might be overlooked but once you get to know her you don’t know how you ever lived without her.
These two have been bounced around more times than we could even count..first being displaced as a result of Hurricane Sandy and now in yet another temporary home. They will loose this home in less than 10 days and we are looking for their permanent home. They will certainly be put in the shelter system if a home is not found.
They are probably best in a home without other animals or someone that has experience with multiple companion animal households.
We ideally want to keep them together but time is running out and we just want to make sure they find stable homes even if that means separating them.
Please Please contact email@example.com with any leads
Please share their story via Facebook

Please join us on Monday September 9th to celebrate the release of David Simon’s Meatonomic$
MEATONOMICS is the first book to explore the unseen economic forces that drive our animal food system, and the strange ways these forces affect our spending, eating, health, prosperity, and longevity. Among other things, consumers have largely lost the ability to decide for ourselves what – and how much – to eat. Instead, those decisions are made for us by meat and dairy producers who control our buying choices with artificially low prices, misleading messaging, and heavy control over legislation and regulation. Learn what makes this bizarre system tick and how it can be fixed.
Meatonomics is the first book to add up the huge “externalized” costs that the animal food system imposes on taxpayers, animals and the environment, and it finds these costs total about $414 billion yearly. With yearly retail sales of around $250 billion, that means that for every $1 of product they sell, meat and dairy producers impose almost $2 in hidden costs on the rest of us. But if producers were forced to internalize these costs, a $4 Big Mac would cost about $11.
The author will be on hand to discuss the book and to answer all your questions.
Books will be available for purchase and some refreshments will be on hand.

We are looking for a home for Rudy. Rudy was on the city shelter’s list of animals scheduled to be euthanized in the next 24 hours. Due to overcrowding, thousands of adoptable dogs are euthanized in NYC every year.
Rudy was one of those dogs. He was brought to the city shelter after someone found him walking the streets aimlessly in Queens. Since poor Rudy had kennel cough (a very curable sickness) he was immediately put on the kill list since the shelter doesn’t have the means to care for sick animals.
While many of us look at the kill list, post the list, repost the list, cry over the list, only some people take the proactive role of pulling dogs from the list. Lucky for Rudy though, two amazing folks saw Rudy’s post and decided that they were going to pull Rudy despite having a houseful of companion dogs and cats. They are not associated with a rescue group, just a couple of individuals that do whatever they can for dogs and cats in need. And I know that if we find a home for Rudy, these individuals will be right back at the shelter pulling another dog.
Rudy is currently being fostered with other dogs and cats. He is getting along with everyone. In addition he loves every single human he meets. He knows simple commands..sit, stay, shake..and learned fetch in a matter of minutes (he’s a smarty!)
He was recently neutered, is up to date on all vaccinations. He has been given a clean bill of health from his veterinarian. He is completely housebroken and is also crate trained.
You want to learn more about Rudy, check out this video:
So please help us find a home for Rudy! Or better yet adopt Rudy!

Ducky Needs a Place to Go Right Away:
This sweet gal was dropped off at a veterinary hospital in NYC recently. She was found abandoned and shivering in Bed-Stuy in Brooklyn. She is in desperate need of a home or a foster. She only has a few daysuntil she is brought to Animal Care and Control, and as many of us know the chances of a Pitbull getting out of the ACC alive are very slim. She has received veterinary care and is believed to be about 2-3 years old.
She has been very sweet with everyone that has handled her and also appears to be dog-friendly.
She is thin because she was most likely neglected or maybe used as a breeding dog.
Please be the one to turn things around for Ducky. She deserves so much more!
Please get in touch with any adoption or foster leads:
